“Stay strong and believe in your research!”

That’s how one of the participants of our study, which has recently been accepted at ICSE SEIS 2025, put it. The abstract of that paper starts as follows: Software engineering combines social and technological dimensions. It is an interdisciplinary research field.

It seems that this is a controversial statement depending on who you talk to. We surveyed software engineering researchers to ask them about challenges publishing interdisciplinary research in software engineering venues. You can find the challenges we identified and the recommendations that our participants provided in the preprint.
